MADISON (WKOW)-- One person is dead after an early morning shooting in the 700 block of West Badger Road.
So far, no arrests have been made but police say they are confident in the leads they have.
“We're comfortable in saying that we don't believe that this person will be at large for an extended period of time,” said Madison Police Department Chief Mike Koval. “We believe that we are narrowing our focus, and making good strides.”
Officers were called to the scene around 3:30 Saturday morning and found the 25-year-old man lying in the road with a gunshot wound.
“It would appear there was an after bar time party behind one of the commercial properties and then it erupted and sped out in to the street,” Chief Koval said.
Chief Koval says a number of people were around at the time of the incident and that it does not appear to be a random act.
But he says he is concerned with the number of gun related incidents. Officers have responded to three calls of shots fired in the last few days.
“I'm always concerned because the last four days we've seen nothing but gunshot fires all around the city of Madison, predominately in the west side. so that's disconcerting,” Chief Koval said.
Koval says as a result, police presence in the west and southside areas of the incidents will be increasing.
“Not only an increase in patrols but we obviously have a lot of integrated discussions both within our department in terms of strategic planning as well as working cooperatively with our other agencies including federal,” he said.
Chief Koval says it's also key that the public report any suspicious or dangerous persons and activity.
Police are also still asking for anyone with information about Saturday's homicide to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
