Volleyball Badgers move up to fourth in coaches’ poll

MADISON, Wis. – Following a 2-0 start, the Wisconsin volleyball team has moved up two spots to fourth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 poll released Monday.  The Badgers opened the season last weekend with 3-0 wins over Louisville and Notre Dame at the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in Minneapolis.
 
Reigning NCAA champion Penn State (3-0) continues to lead the poll with 35 first-place votes and 1,443 points. Stanford (2-0) and Texas (3-0) switch spots in this week's poll, coming in second and third respectively. The Cardinal earned 15 first-place votes while the Longhorns garnered five first-place votes. Wisconsin also picked up five first-place votes. Washington (3-0) rounds out the top-five teams after dropping one spot.
 
The Big Ten Conference has seven teams in the top 20 as Purdue (3-0) moves up one spot to eighth and Illinois (3-0) jumps up two places to 11th. Nebraska (0-2) dropped five positions after suffering loses to then-No. 13 Florida State and then-No. 3 Stanford last weekend. Michigan State (4-0) improves two places to 14th while Minnesota (1-1) fell six spots to 18th. Michigan (2-1) continues to receive votes.
 
The fourth-ranked Badgers travel to Colorado for the Northern Colorado/Colorado State Classic on Friday and Saturday. Wisconsin takes on Northern Colorado (2-1) on Friday at 8 p.m. CT in Greeley, Colorado. UW travels to Fort Collins, Colorado, on Saturday to take on Florida A&M (0-3) at 12:30 p.m. CT before playing No. 13 Colorado State (3-0) at 8 p.m. CT.
