Pepper spray used to break up downtown disturbance

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison police officer needed to use pepper spray to break up a disturbance inside a downtown parking ramp early Saturday.

Several disputes were taking place at the same time inside the State Street Campus Garage around 2:15 a.m.  All all appeared to be connected to a confrontation that took place in the 400 block of N. Frances Street.  Officers, in the area as part of the Downtown Safety Initiative, watched the groups ignore private security guards' orders to exit.

More than a dozen people appeared to be involved in the fight, but once the pepper spray was utilized, most were prompted to leave the area.
