Badgers men's hockey team selects captains

Posted: Updated:

The Badgers men's hockey team has elected a pair of Wisconsin natives to serve as co-captains for the upcoming season. The team voted seniors Brad Navin and Chase Drake as co-captains. Navin is a forward from Waupaca. Drake is a fifth-year defenseman from Mosinee.

The assistant captain for the 2014-15 season will be senior forward Joseph LaBate. Head coach Mike Eaves made the leadership announcements on Thursday.

"It was quite clear that the two guys who are our co-captains were the picks. The voting was very close and Joseph was a strong third, so it became evident how the guys felt about their leadership."

This is the first time since the 2008-09 season the Badgers will have co-captains. It is the 18th time in school history that the team has gone with more than one captain.

The season starts Oct. 10 in Anchorage, Alaska. The squad will begin practice on Oct. 4 with the Red-White Scrimmage at Cornerstone Community Center in Ashwaubenon.
