Andersen: Trying to do what's best for players

MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) -- The Badgers will make their home debut Saturday, as healthy as could be expected considering the developments of the past week.

Warren Herring and Derek Watt are the only two players ruled out for this weekend's match-up with Western Illinois.

Head Coach Gary Andersen said Thursday Melvin Gordon looked alright this week at practice. Gordon's health status triggered a few days worth of confusing statements coming from Andersen and the program.

When the dust settled, Andersen said he was just trying to do what was best for his players.

"I'm always gonna try to take care of kids," Andersen said. "I know I use those terms a lot, but it's what I'm going to try to do. And if sometimes I come out as not looking great in those situations, well, then I can't control that. It's unfortunate the way some of it came out, and do I like that? No. But I feel good that the kids understand I got their back, and I really truly believe that."
