Capitols fall 3-2 at home in final preseason game

Madison, WI – The Madison Capitols dropped their final preseason game, 3-2, against the Chicago Steel at Capitol Ice Arena in Middleton on Saturday before a packed house of 1,014. The Capitols wore throwback Columbia blue jerseys that paid homage to the Capitols' AAA programs while paying respect to Bob Suter, the longtime Capitol Ice Arena owner who passed away on Sep. 9. , Wis. native Alec Vanko got the Capitols on the board in the first period on a power play just over a minute after Chicago took a 1-0 lead. The Steel answered back in the first on a goal from Mason Bergh to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission.

After the teams played a scoreless second, Will Johnson notched his third goal of the preseason on a beautiful aerial pass from Marco Richter. Johnson fired a quick wrist shot past Steel goaltender Ryan Wischow to tie the game, 2-2.

Steel forward Robby Jackson broke the tie and sealed the 3-2 win for Chicago at 9:47 of the third period.

The Capitols open their season on Saturday, Sep. 27 in Muskegon against the Lumberjacks.
