Wisconsin third on Big Ten men's hockey preseason Coaches' Poll

Rosemont, Ill. – Minnesota has been chosen as the preseason favorite in the 2014-15 Big Ten men's hockey coaches' poll, the conference announced on Wednesday. The coaches also selected a 16-member Preseason Players to Watch list, including six unanimous honorees. Minnesota

completed the 2013-14 campaign with a conference record of 14-3-3-0 (28-7-6 overall) and won the inaugural Big Ten Championship. The Gophers were the No. 1 overall seed in the 2014 NCAA Championship and advanced to the national title game. Michigan was selected second in the preseason poll, with Wisconsin capturing third, Ohio State taking fourth, Michigan State placing fifth and Penn State rounding out the poll in sixth.

The Preseason Players to Watch list features 16 student-athletes, with six unanimous selections in Michigan's JT Compher and Andrew Copp, Minnesota's Kyle Rau, Mike Reilly and Adam Wilcox and Wisconsin's Joel Rumpel. Players from all six schools appeared on the Players to Watch list, led by Minnesota with five honorees and Ohio State with four.

Wilcox was the 2014 Big Ten Player and Goaltender of the Year while Reilly was named Defensive Player of the Year and Compher was tabbed Freshman of the Year. The list includes two returning first-team All-Big Ten honorees (Minnesota's Reilly and Wilcox), three second-team selections (Michigan's Compher, Minnesota's Rau and Wisconsin's Rumpel), four honorable mention honorees (Michigan's Copp, Michigan State's Jake Hildebrand and Minnesota's Sam Warning and Brady Skjei) and four All-Freshman selections (Michigan's Compher and Ohio State's Drew Brevig, Christian Frey and Nick Schilkey).

The 2014-15 season begins on Oct. 4, while Big Ten play opens Nov. 21.
