Purgolders snap 27-game losing streak

MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) -- Wins have not come easy for the Madison East football team. In fact, the Purgolders had not seen a victory since September 2011.

But that all changed Thursday, October 12 against Beloit Memorial.

East not only snapped their 27-game losing streak, they set a new state record with 787 yards of total offense.

The Purgolders won 64-35 over the Purple Knights behind six touchdowns from quarterback Zach Zilm. Senior running back Jamari Manuel rushed for 245 yards and 3 scores.

No player currently on the varsity team had ever won a game with East until that night. Still, they had never given up hope.

Now, they are hoping to start a new streak: a winning streak.
