Badgers quarterback decision is a 'coin flip'

MADISON (WKOW) -

The Badgers coaching staff has made it clear they intend to use Joel Stave and Tanner McEvoy at quarterback this week. So far, the coaches have refused to say which signal caller will actually start the game. The Journal Sentinel is reporting Stave will get his first start of the season. Head coach Gary Andersen did not name a starter on Thursday night. Instead, he said that decision would be left up to offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig.

"We're going into it thinking they're both going to play. So, you might as well, I guess, flip a coin, call heads or tails to see who will take the first snap. Just because one person takes the first snap doesn't mean, 'Oh, they're ahead now.' Let's not all of a sudden make this a bigger creature than it already is. If that's possible."

The Badgers pulled McEvoy in the second quarter of Saturday's loss to Northwestern. Stave entered the game and threw three interceptions. Throughout the week, Andersen and Ludwig have stated they will use both quarterbacks until one of them takes hold of the starting spot.

The Badgers host Illinois on Saturday at 11 a.m.
