Run game slowing sack chances for Pack's Matthews

GREEN BAY (AP) -

Clay Matthews is off to a slow start in sacks for the Green Bay Packers.

One of the NFL's most prolific pass rushers has one sack in 15 tackles through the Packers' first six games. Coaches don't seem too worried about the production, saying that the linebacker is still playing well.

Matthews says he's confident that the sacks will come. He also says that the changes in offenses in recent years -- with more teams using mobile quarterbacks and read-option schemes -- also have an impact.

Those schemes can neutralize pass rushers like the Packers' Matthews and Julius Peppers.

Defensive coordinator Dom Capers said Thursday that the production will come, and that Matthews otherwise is playing hard and doing his job.

Green Bay plays Carolina on Sunday.
