Gordon aiming for a strong 2nd half of season

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- The Badger football team is halfway through its regular season and there's absolutely no question who the team's MVP is. It's hard to know where the (4-2) Badgers would be without running back Melvin Gordon. Gordon is second in the country with 1,046 rushing yards and has scored 14 of the Badgers' 27 touchdowns. Averaging 174 yards per game, Gordon is on pace to break the Wisconsin single-season rushing record (Ron Dayne with 2,109 in 1996), assuming the Badgers can play a 13th game. It was an impressive first half of the season that has Gordon in the Heisman Trophy discussion, but he's hungry for more.

"I think I did pretty well, but last year I think I did pretty well too," Gordon said.

"The second half of the season I kind of just, I really went down, so my goal is to try to stay as consistent as I can. If you go look at the numbers, I wasn't playing as well in the second half of the season, but I'm really looking at changing that. So I'm not really thinking about what I did beginning of the season because I did well beginning of the season last year and didn't have, you know second half of the season I didn't play as well as I wanted to."

In the first six games of 2013, Gordon rushed for 870 yards with eight touchdowns. He had just one game where he rushed for fewer than 100 yards (Ohio State). In the final six regular season games of 2013, Gordon rushed for 596 yards with four touchdowns and he only went over 100 yards rushing in two of those games.
