No. 2 Badgers best Bemidji State, 4-3

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The No. 2 Wisconsin women's hockey completed its sweep of Bemidji State on Saturday, as the Badgers bested the Beavers, 4-3, at the Sanford Center.

The Badgers featured a balanced attack, as four different Badgers (8-2-0, 6-2-0-0 WCHA) found the back of the net and Wisconsin outshot Bemidji State (4-4-0, 0-4-0-0 WCHA) 46-18.

Just under three minutes into the game, Brittany Ammerman tallied her sixth goal of the year, tipping in a shot past BSU goaltender Erin Deters to give UW a 1-0 advantage.

However, the UW lead wouldn't hold, as 40 seconds later, Kristin Huber shot a puck that bounced off a UW defender and past Wisconsin netminder Ann-Renee Desbiens to tie the game at 1-1.

Midway through the first stanza, freshman Emily Clark lit the lamp off assists from Baylee Wellhausen and Karley Sylvester to put the Badgers back in front.

Wisconsin extended its lead to 3-1 early in the second, as Sarah Nurse tallied her fourth goal of the year on a UW power play.

Once again, Bemidji State countered, as Hanna Moher beat Desbiens to cut the UW lead back to one.

Early in the third period, Wisconsin again took a two-goal lead as Annie Pankowski tipped in a Jenny Ryan shot, but BSU countered with a goal of its own with just over 15 minutes remaining as Alex Citrowske scored on a BSU rush.

Desbiens made 15 saves to improve to 6-2-0 on the season, while Deters collected a career-high 42 saves.

Wisconsin continues its four-game road swing next weekend when it travels to Grand Forks, North Dakota, to take on No. 9/8 North Dakota. Faceoff next Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m., while Saturday's contest will begin at 3 p.m.
