Gordon proving a workhorse for the Badgers

The 'Gordon to Gotham' Heisman campaign is picking up steam. Melvin Gordon continues to climb most Heisman Trophy watch lists. The junior has already rushed for 1,168 yards and 16 touchdowns. Those numbers will continue to pile up in a hurry as Gordon's workload remains heavy. Over the past four games, Gordon is averaging 27 carries per game. That's a far cry from the previous two seasons when he was splitting carries.

"I mean you get used to it. You get used to it. It's different. It is what it is. When you're out there, you're not counting carries. You're trying to do whatever you can to win the game. Then, when you look up and see the carries at the end of the game, it's like, 'Wow. I got a lot.' I mean it is what it is. I understand I have to carry the load a little bit. That's just how it is as a running back."

Despite the increase in carries, Gordon's efficiency has not slipped. He is still averaging 7.6 yards per carry. Gordon is currently second in the nation with 166.9 rushing yards per contest. He should be able to add to those lofty numbers this coming week. The Badgers are facing the Big Ten's 12th ranked rush defense at Rutgers.
