MADISON (WKOW) -

The company that owns the Madison Mallards and three other Northwoods League franchises has been tabbed as the Organization of the Year by 'Ballpark Digest'.

Big Top Baseball owned the Madison Mallards and Wisconsin Rapids Rafters before an aggressive expansion prior to last season. The ownership group took over the Green Bay Bullfrogs from the Northwoods League and created the Kenosha Kingfish to double it's number of teams. The four franchises combined to bring in 364,267 fans this past summer to earn recognition from 'Ballpark Digest.'

“Most operators would have been happy running the Madison Mallards, the most successful summer-collegiate team on the planet,” said Kevin Reichard, Ballpark Digest publisher. “Adding Kenosha and an outstanding ballpark renovation certainly was not easy, but it paid off, as the Kingfish was a very successful launch at a nicely renovated Simmons Field. Throw in a successful takeover of the Green Bay Bullfrogs, and the Big Top Baseball organization had a great 2014.”
