Dukan forced to sit by NCAA

MADISON (WKOW) -

Badgers forward Duje Dukan will be forced to miss two regular season games due to a NCAA ruling regarding his 'redshirt' season in 2012-13. Dukan will be eligible to play the rest of his senior season.

Two years ago, Dukan was credited with a season of competion despite only playing limited minutes in the exhibition contest and a closed scrimmage early in the season. He was recovering from mononucleosis at the time and elected to sit out the rest of the season to recover. However, the NCAA ruled Dukan did not qualify for a medical hardship waiver for that season because his illness was not incapacitating for the entire season.

UW lobbied to have a final year of eligibility restored to Dukan. However, the NCAA ruled that Dukan must sit out two contests for every one in which he played. So, Dukan sat out a closed scrimmage on Saturday and will miss the exhibition opener in addition to the first two regular season contests.
