Andersen tabs Hillary as unsung hero of defense

Posted: Updated:
MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) -- The Badger football team has been shutting down teams defensively as of late, allowing only seven points in the past two games.

Wisconsin wouldn't be having this kind of success without teamwork. Still, this week Gary Andersen singled out Darius Hillary as one of the unsung heroes of the defense.

"He's played fantastic," Andersen said. "He is good in his man skills, his physical skills and he is a good tackler, and I think he needs to be thrown out there as a big part of this defense."

The junior cornerback is tied for the team lead with four passes defended. He also has two tackles for loss.

"I just think trusting in the game plan, watching film and listening to the coaches," Hillary said was the reason for his recent success. "That definitely helps out a lot."

Hillary is one of the big reasons the Badgers have the third-ranked pass defense in the country.

"He's playing great," said teammate Sojourn Shelton. "He's a technician. He's the guy that, honestly, I look up to because he does everything so perfect. He does everything right. He's playing at, what I would say, is an unrealistic level."
