Waterloo volleyball makes first trip to state

WATERLOO (WKOW) -

The Waterloo volleyball team is making the journey to the state tournament in Green Bay for the first time in school history. The Pirates will face Howards Grove in the Division 3 semifinals on Friday at 1 p.m.

Waterloo is making school history but is not considered a 'Cinderella' team. The Pirates are the top-ranked team in the state. They have a talented group of outside hitters led by junior Madeline Mosher, who is a Marquette recruit. Mosher's younger sister, Claire, has also starred as a setter.  Scott Schumann says he has some other talented players as well. So, the Waterloo head coach was expecting big things this season.

"I think after them winning that sectional final, they've just relaxed like, 'We've made it.' Now, they'll just play their game."

The Pirates have every reason to be confident. They've posted a 35-4 record this season. The players, such as senior Jenny Kling, believe the best is yet to come.

"We have nothing to lose. We got there. So, now we might as well play and go and try to win."
