Badger volleyball advances to Sweet 16 in Louisville

MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's volleyball team swept Illinois State in the second round of the NCAA tournament to advance to the Louisville Regional. The Badgers will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 12 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

This marks the Badgers second NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in two seasons under Coach Kelly Sheffield and the 12th appearance for the program.

The sweep over Illinois State was Wisconsin's 22nd sweep of the season.

The Badgers recorded three service aces in the first set alone and five total in the match.

The Redbirds registered four service errors in the first set alone and eight in the match.

Kelli Bates posted a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.

Lauren Carlini also logged a double-double 33 assist and 13 digs.

UW outblocked ISU 12.0-3.0. Wisconsin was led by Haleigh Nelson who put up six blocks in the match.

The Badgers ended hitting .240 while the Rebirds hit .131.

The teams had a great defensive battle with UW posting 65 digs to ISU's 62 digs.
