MADISON, Wis. – Fifth-year senior Michala Johnson will miss the rest of the season for the Wisconsin women's basketball team with a torn ACL, head coach Bobbie Kelsey announced today. The 6-3 forward injured her left knee nine minutes into the game at Miami on Thursday.

“I'm extremely disappointed for Mickey and the team,” said Kelsey. “She is a crucial part of this team but this will give our other players a chance to step up.”

Johnson earned first-team All-Big Ten Conference honors as a redshirt junior. She led the Badgers with 16.6 points per game, scoring in double figures in 21 games. The Bellwood, Illinois native shot a team-best 55.2 percent from the field, which ranked third in the Big Ten. She also added 7.3 rebounds per game, pulling down double-figure boards in seven games.

This season, Johnson had started all six games and was averaging 12.8 points per game, despite not scoring at Miami. She was also the Badgers' leading rebounder at 6.3 boards per game.

Johnson played her first two seasons at Connecticut before transferring to Wisconsin. She redshirted the 2012-13 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Surgery to repair the knee will be scheduled at a future date.

The Badgers host Marquette today at 1 p.m. in the Kohl Center.
