Rumpel records 47 saves in Badgers’ 2-0 win over No. 5 Michigan Tech

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin senior netminder Joel Rumpel tallied 47 saves, while redshirt sophomore Morgan Zulinick and senior Joseph LaBate each tallied a goal in the Badgers' (2-11-1, 0-2-0-0 Big Ten) 2-0 win over No. 5 Michigan Tech (15-5-0, 10-2-0 WCHA), Saturday at the Kohl Center.

Rumpel's 47 saves were the second-most in a Badgers' shutout, and his 25 third-period stops were tied for the second-most in a period. In addition, his 10 career shutouts rank second in Wisconsin history, behind only Brian Elliott's 16.

The win was Rumpel's 51st, tying him for fifth all-time at Wisconsin with Brian Elliott, Bernd Brückler and Julian Baretta.

Zulinick has scored four of the Badgers' past seven goals and leads the team with five tallies.

Wisconsin had 27 blocks compared to Michigan Tech's 14.

The Badgers' killed all four of the Huskies' power plays, while Zulinick scored on UW's lone power play in the second period.

With his assist in the second period, freshman Tim Davison is tied for the team lead with five helpers.
