MILWAUKEE (AP) -

The new president of the Milwaukee Bucks says public financial support is needed for a new, multipurpose arena to help spur downtown development.

Peter Feigin spoke Tuesday at a luncheon sponsored by the Rotary and the Milwaukee Press Club.

Feigin says city, county and state support is crucial to build upon what the Bucks hope is a much larger investment in downtown Milwaukee.

While a new arena is expected to cost between $400 million and $500 million, Feigin says it could help bring more than $1 billion in development.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Bucks owners Wes Edens and Marc Lasry have pledged at least $150 million toward a new arena. Former Sen. Herb Kohl, who sold the team for $550 million, also has pledged $100 million.
