Bucks are an NBA surprise approaching All-Star break

MILWAUKEE (AP) -

The Milwaukee Bucks are one of the pleasant surprises in the NBA approaching the All-Star break.

At 29-23, the young Bucks are just one win away from doubling their victory total from all of last season.

They're winning with defense and the transition game, even with rookie forward Jabari Parker out for the year with a knee injury. Milwaukee is firmly in playoff contention a year after a franchise-worst 15-win season.

Guard Brandon Knight and the freakishly athletic 6-foot-11 forward Giannis Antetokounmpo are participating in All-Star weekend activities. Jared Dudley has provided a vocal, veteran presence in the frontcourt.

General manager John Hammond says the successful start isn't going to change the organization's overall blueprint to build for the long haul. The trade deadline is Feb. 19.
