Chryst jokes that if he can get degree, so can his players

MADISON (AP) -

Wisconsin football coach Paul Chryst jokes that if he can get a college degree, it's not too much to ask of his players.

Chryst made the quip Wednesday before hundreds of Wisconsin's business leaders at a meeting of the state chamber of commerce.

Chryst says he emphasizes to his players that it's important to get a degree. He says, "I got a degree from Wisconsin. It's not like you have to be a rocket scientist."

Chryst graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1988, with a degree in political science. He played quarterback for the Badgers and previously served as offensive coordinator.

Chryst was named head coach in December to replace Gary Andersen, who said in interviews that the school's tough admissions standards made it difficult to recruit players.
