Thousands attend send-off rally for Badgers

MADISON (WKOW) – Thousands of Badgers fans gathered at the Kohl Center Wednesday night to send the men's basketball team off in style as they travel to Indianapolis for the Final Four.

The UW Athletic Department says 5,130 people attended the pep rally held at the Kohl Center. Fans lined up outside of the building as early as 3 p.m. to get a seat.

The 2014-2015 Badgers squad (35-3) has already broken records this year, becoming the winningest team in program history and the first team to go to two consecutive Final Fours. But fans 27 News spoke to at the rally say they hope the team makes more history by beating undefeated Kentucky (38-0) on Saturday night.

“In order to be the best, beat the best,” said Jim Callen of Portage. “If they're gonna win, obviously they've gotta go through Kentucky, and I think they're looking forward to the challenge after last year.”

"We'll (The Badgers will) play well,” said Ronald Smith of Madison. (They) won't get rattled. We're not intimidated. We'll need a break or two. We'll need the ball to bounce our way, but this team is tough and they don't get rattled."

“I've been thru the good, the bad and the ugly,” Smith added. “And how does this team compare? The best. Whatever happens, Saturday, I'll consider this team the best I've ever seen."

"It's just a really cool atmosphere seeing them all being teammates and just being a part of it, “ said Cassie Lather of Cambridge. “Instead of just seeing it on TV you get to be part of the whole atmosphere together."

The Badgers and Wildcats tip off at approximately 7:49 p.m. Saturday.
