MADISON (WKOW) -- Bail was set Friday at $3,000 for Madison West High School girls basketball coach Shelton Kingcade, who police officials say is suspected of sexually assaulting more than one girl.
Within an hour of Kingcade's court appearance, a bail payment was posted and he was released from jail.
A court commissioner also set a condition of Kingcade's bail that he have no contact with any girl under sixteen.
Madison Police spokesperson Joel DeSpain says police officials tried to arrest Kingcade Tuesday , but Kingcade ran off.. Kingcade surrendered to authorities Thursday.
Kingcade's attorney, Mark Eisenberg says Kingcade ran off Tuesday, after Eisenberg and authorities were unable to work out a surrender, that involved a jail release.
Eisenberg offered no comment on the accusations against Kingcade.
Madison School District officials say Kingcade was suspended from his coaching position Feb. 25. Kingcade has also been removed from positions of youth supervision with the Madison Spartans Basketball club and the Dane County Boys and Girls Club.
Authorities have yet to release the probable cause affidavit used to support the attempt to arrest Kingcade.
A prosecutor said an initial court appearance for Kingcade on expected charges will not take place until May 25.
Court records show Kingcade was convicted of second degree sexual assault of a 15-year old girl after he failed to comply with the rules of a first offender's program in the early nineties, but his conviction was dismissed in 1995 after Kingcade completed probation with no problems..
