Beauvais dominating in senior season

Posted: Updated:

Gabby Beauvais entered her senior season as a woman on a mission. The Monona Grove track and field star wants to end her career with at least one state championship. Beauvais will have to wait a few weeks to accomplish that goal, but she's off to a pretty good start.

Beauvais currently holds the top spot in the state in three events. She has the best times in the 200 meters (24.56 seconds) and 400 meters (56.84 seconds). She also has the best long jump of the season at 19'2.5".

"I wish we could have a couple more meets because we've had not good weather. So, a lot of our meets have been cancelled. We've had a lot shorter season than past seasons. As far as my performance, I think I'm doing right where I want to be right now."

Beauvais' coach, Sharon Fritz, has watched Gabby come close to winning that elusive state championship and understands Beauvais' mission.

"She hasn't quite cracked that first place slot just yet. I know she's had her eye on that ever since she was a freshman. If she gets it done, I think this year could be the year."

The state meet is June 5-6 in La Crosse. That will be Beauvais' last shot at a state championship before moving on to compete at Central Michigan University next year.
