Dane County Sheriff promises action after department's Facebook controversy
Deputy James Myers
MADISON (WKOW) -- Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney promises action, following a controversy involving one of his deputies earlier this week.
Sheriff Deputy James Myers was put on leave after he posted on Facebook that one solution to the recent string of shootings in Madison would be to "nuke Chicago".
Deputy Mahoney says the department is already conducting an internal investigation, and will do whatever it takes to regain the trust of the community.
"It's imperative that we identify those in our ranks - whether it be in the Sheriff's office or any other law enforcement agency - who display a bias to members of our community. Particularly those who are most disproportionately impacted by the criminal justice system."
The Sheriff says he hopes to conclude the internal investigation into Meyer's comments in the next several weeks.
