DNR has plan to fix biodigester's violations

Posted: Updated:
WAUNAKEE (WKOW) -- The Department of Natural Resources is letting the biodigester near Waunakee increase the amount of air pollution it lets off to help the facility fix its nearly 90 state violations.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports the plan is to let Clear Horizons burn gas containing five times as much hydrogen sulfide as is allowed now. That will slightly increase air emissions, but will still be within federal air quality standards, according to the DNR.

A public comment period for the matter ends June 15 for a new air pollution permit. You can find out details here.

Meanwhile, Madison.com reports the facility is also up for sale.

The biodigester has had three spills of dairy manure in recent years.
