Fitchburg's Festa Italia holds vintage baseball

Posted: Updated:
FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- A version of baseball from 1860 was played at the Festa Italia at McKee Farms Park in Fitchburg on Saturday afternoon. Teams from Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin gathered to compete in the vintage-style game. Some of the main differences in the game is an underhand-style pitch, balls and strikes are not called, fielders do no wear gloves and a batter can be called out if the ball is caught in the air or on the bounce.

"It is our national pastime and I enjoy the history of it, learning where baseball came from and where it ended up today," Rochelle, Illinois native Will Widick said.

"Most of us love baseball and this is baseball how it originally was played. I think there were about 14 to 15 rules and I being an elderly gentleman, I can still play the game which I still love to play," Creston, Illinois native Dan Graber said.
