Capitols hire Ward as head coach/general manager

MADISON (WKOW) -

The Madison Capitols wasted little time filling their head coach/general manager vacancy. The club has hired Troy Ward to replace Luke Strand, who recently accepted a job as an assistant coach with the Badgers.

Ward has his own experience with the Badgers. He was an assistant under Mike Eaves from 2002-2005. The UW-Eau Claire graduate also spent three years as the head coach of his alma mater.

"It is with great pleasure that I have been extended the opportunity to come back home and coach for the Capitols' organization. Anytime you join an organization in its infant stages, it's special. My job is to bring my experiences into the Caps' organization and take it a step further from last year."

Ward has more than 25 years of coaching experience. He previously coached in the USHL with the Dubuque Fighting Saints. He also had stops in the IHL, ECHL and AHL, in addition to a stint as an assistant with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
