WIAA Board Approves Changes To Basketball for 2015-2016 Season

Posted: Updated:

MADISON, Wisconsin (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control reviewed and approved a number of recommendations for winter sports today.

There were five approved recommendations made for basketball, including replacing the four-quarter game format with a two 18-minute half for varsity games. The format follows more of what we see at the collegiate level. This change will be in affect as a one-year trial basis in 2015-2016. Subvarsity games will play two 16-minute halves.

Another major change comes with the annual State Basketball Tournament held in March. The Division 3 semifinals will be played during the Thursday afternoon sessions, and the Division 4 semifinals will be held during the Thursday evening session. On Friday, the Division 5 semifinals will be played in the morning session with the Division 2 semifinals being held in the afternoon. Division 1 semi's are scheduled for Friday evening. The schedule for the finals on Saturday remains unchanged.
