Hilary Knight is aiming for a shot in the NHL

MADISON (WKOW) -- Former Badger women's hockey player Hilary Knight returned to Madison Friday night to play in the Blake Geoffrion Hockey Classic at LaBahn Arena. She and Jessie Vetter were invited to play with the men in year two of the event. It's not the first time Knight has skated with men. Knight practiced with the Anaheim Ducks in the fall of 2014. The two-time Olympic silver medalist has even bigger plans on the horizon.

"I want to play a game in the NHL. I think that's the next thing for me. Whether that happens this year, next year, the following year who knows, but it's definitely a dream for me to do that and definitely a huge opportunity for women in athletics," Knight said Friday night.

If Knight does get the opportunity, she'd be the first non-goaltender to play in the NHL. In 1992 Manon Rheauke became the first woman to ever play in the NHL, playing in net for the Tampa Bay Lightning in an exhibition game.
