Edgerton Native Carrier Still Proving His Worth

Posted: Updated:

EDGERTON, Wisconsin -- Derek Carrier walks back onto the football field at Edgerton High School, and all the memories come pouring in.
"It reminds me of all the hard work I put in when I was here and all I continue to do to get to where I am today," Carrier said on his two-week vacation before the San Fransisco 49ers training camp begins.
Carrier recently signed a deal through 2017 as a tight end with the 49ers, but his route to the pros was the road less traveled.

He went to Division 3 Beloit College, turning down an opportunity to walk-on for the Wisconsin Badgers. Carrier shattered numerous records as a Buccaneer. all while being a three-sport athlete.
He earned a shot with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent, but moved around before finally settling down in San Fransisco.
"Just because you get fired or released doesn't mean it's over. you've got to continue to work and keep the dream alive." And that's exactly what Carrier has done."

Now he's out to prove that small town kids can make it to the top.
"I take a lot of pride in that small town mentality and showing kids now, no matter what the age, how young how old they may be that if you set your mind to something it can be accomplished."
