MADISON (WKOW) -- Local dog owners, and the pups themselves, are part of a groundbreaking study about canine cancer.
Cancer is actually the leading cause of death in dogs.
And for some reason, Golden Retrievers are especially susceptible to the disease.
That's why Madison resident Dan Knothe put his pups, Rusty and Bailey, in the study.
He's lost several Goldens to cancer, and wants to be part of finding answers.
The study is done by the Morris Animal Foundation, and is the largest dog cancer study ever, with 3,000 dogs.
