Madison Radicals head to championship weekend

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -

The Madison Radicals have some unfinished business to attend to this weekend in San Jose. They will face the Raleigh Flyers on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT in the American Ultimate Disc League championship weekend.

The Radicals have advanced to the league semifinals for the third straight year. They lost to San Jose in the semifinals last year and fell to Toronto in the finals in 2013. Both of those teams are on the other side of the semifinal bracket. So, Radicals player Pat Shriwise admits redemption will be a motivating factor this weekend.

"Quite a bit of it's about redemption because we're likely to face San Jose or the Toronto Rush in the finals. Those are both teams we have faced in the past in the playoffs and lost both of them."

The Radicals will have a shot at redemption on the big stage. This weekend's matches will be played at Avaya Stadium which seats 18,000. The games will be televised on ESPN3. Radicals player Andrew Brown says the team is looking forward to their moment in the spotlight.

"To have the opportunity to go out there and play on a big time Major League Soccer stadium is a really great opportunity for us. It's going to be really fun. Huge stadium. Huge spectacle. I'm looking forward to it."

The semifinal winners will meet Sunday for the championship. The winning team takes home $25,000.
