McEvoy gaining confidence at new position

Posted: Updated:

MADISON, Wisconsin (WKOW)-- In his third day running with the receivers, redshirt senior Tanner McEvoy is finding some confidence in his new position.

Previously a quarterback, and then a safety, McEvoy's football IQ is on the rise. On Wednesday, McEvoy was kept on the offensive side of the ball to fine-tune his receiver skills even more. Paul Chryst is confident in his ability to play out wide, but wants more depth behind starter Alex Erickson. With McEvoys 6'6" frame and natural athleticism, Chryst believes McEvoy can be a difference maker. The Hillsdale, New Jersey, native realizes he has the tools to made an immediate impact.

"I mean, it's a tough position. It's not just going out there and catching the ball. I got to work on my releases, I'm a big body so I've got to learn how to not give up my chest and just kinda get off the ball right and getting off the top of my routes and staying open so those are the two things I'm focusing on. It's new, new terminology, new language that I've got to learn. I mean it's all pretty simple, I mean pretty similar, but I just need to focus on the little things playing receiver so that's what I'm focusing on."

The Badgers season opener is set for September 5th down in Arlington, Texas, against Alabama.
