UPDATE (WKOW) – The Dane County Sheriff's Office says one person has died in a crash in the township of Windsor early Sunday evening.
They say a 77-year-old woman and her 71-year-old husband, both from Windsor, were trying to enter a driveway on Portage Rd. when they were hit by a car with three teenagers inside.
The woman, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to UW Hospital where she later died. Her husband, the driver, and the driver of the second car were also taken to UW Hospital with significant injuries.
The woman's identity will not be released until her family is notified.
Officials say speed was believed to be a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
WINDSOR (WKOW) – Officials are investigating a crash that involved five people in the town of Windsor.
Dane County Communications tells 27 News it happened just before 5:30 p.m. Sunday on Portage Road near Finch Trail.
The Dane County Sheriff's Office says both cars were traveling southbound on Portage Road when one slowed down to turn into a driveway. The elderly couple inside was then struck at an angle by teenagers in the second car. The first car was spun three times before ending on the other side of Finch Trail.
Officials say speed may have been a factor in the crash, since the teenagers may have been driving up to 80 miles per hour. They say alcohol was not believed to be a factor, but everyone was wearing seat belts.
The crash reconstruction team is on the scene.
