MADISON, Wis. -- Last season, on a team full of veterans and a roster that included three players now on NBA rosters, Nigel Hayes still found a way to stand out. Now as one of Wisconsin’s lone upperclassmen, the junior forward appears ready to stand out on the national stage himself, earning 2015-16 preseason All-America accolades from Sporting News on Monday.

Hayes started all 40 games on the Badgers’ 2015 Big Ten champion and Final Four team, ranking third on the squad in scoring (12.4 ppg) and second in rebounds (6.2 rpg). A third-team All-Big Ten selection a season ago, Hayes was also named to the 2015 All-Big Ten Tournament Team after leading UW with 17.0 ppg during the three-game run.

A native of Toledo, Ohio, Hayes finished ninth in the Big Ten a year ago shooting 49.7 percent from the field. He also ranked 13th in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage, connecting on 40-of-101 (.396) from long range. Hayes led the Badgers in steals (34) and finished third in blocks (16) and shot 74.4% from the free throw line.

Hayes is joined on the Sporting News preseason All-America team by Ron Baker (Wichita State), Malcolm Brogdon (Virginia), Georges Niang (Iowa State) and Marcus Paige (North Carolina).

In 2014, Sam Dekker (second team) and Frank Kaminsky (third team) were both given Sporting News preseason All-America accolades.
