Help this baby Ball Python, Ophion, find a home

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- There's a pet in need of a good home, and it's not your typical cat or dog.

Ophion is a baby Ball Python, just six months old, at the Dane County Humane Society.  Marissa DeGroot says Ophion was abandoned, but he is very sweet and docile.  "Ball Pythons can make really amazing pets," she says.

Ophion could live as long as 30 more years; that's the average life expectancy for a Ball Python.  At full size, he'll be about two to three feet.  DeGroot says Ophion could do well in a variety of homes.

If you're interested in learning more about Ophion or adopting him, you can contact the Dane County Humane Society at (608) 838-0413.

In addition, for pet people more into furry friends, the shelter is planning their Dogtoberfest this Sunday, October 4 at Capital Brewery in Middleton.  The event is from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and includes live music, a canine costume contest and a 50/50 raffle.  Admission is a suggested $10 donation to the Dane County Humane Society and Glass Nickel Pizza as well as Capital brews will be available.
