Ryan's future a popular topic at Big Ten Basketball Media Day

CHICAGO (WKOW) -

The Badgers are not the preseason favorites in the Big Ten. Yet, they were a major topic of conversation at Big Ten Media Day thanks to Bo Ryan. As expected, Ryan was peppered with questions about his future beyond this year. He once again chose to leave things up in the air.

"I haven't made my mind about anything other than coaching these guys. We've got practice at 4 (p.m.) this afternoon."

Ryan reiterated that he was just trying to serve notice that the end of his run is near when he announced his upcoming retirement this summer. That end may not come after this season. Ryan tried to explain his thought process for announcing he 'may' retire with an interesting analogy.

"It's like me saying at a picnic, 'OK, I'll have one more hamburger.'. How many guys have been at a picnic had three more hamburgers when they said they were only going to have one?"

Confused? So are many of the Big Ten coaches who weren't quite sure if they should congratulate Ryan on his pending retirement or wait to make sure this is actually his final year. Purdue head coach Matt Painter echoed the thoughts of several league coaches.

"I want him to do what makes him happy. I think he's earned that right. If he wants to stay, he should be able to stay as long as he wants."

The Badger players insist Ryan has lost none of enthusiasm at practice. Vitto Brown says that is why many of them doubt he'll follow through with his retirement plans.

"I don't think we do. None of us do. We've talked about it, but, like I said, we don't know."
