Clement's status uncertain for Illinois game

Posted: Updated:

Badgers running back Corey Clement is once again practicing this week. He continues to make progress on his return from sports hernia surgery. However, Clement says he won't make a decision on if he'll play Saturday at Illinois until just before the game.

"I'm not really pressing anything saying I'm going to play or not. That can only be determined when I wake up Saturday morning."

Clement came close to playing this past weekend against Purdue. He suited up and led the team out of the tunnel. He has been medically cleared but decided during the game he wasn't quite ready for game action. The junior admits his challenges are just as much mental as physical at this point. He can't do any further damage to his injury. However, Clement is waiting to hit full speed in practice before cutting it loose in games.

"I've been out of football six weeks. It's tough to get back. If you say you can hop back into it like that, you're lying to yourself. I think I just have to get back into the rhythm of things."

Clement hasn't played since the season opener against Alabama.
