Lodi football lives on in playoffs thanks to kicker
LODI (WKOW) -- In high school football, a reliable kicker is often a luxury, but not in Lodi.
"Once we get past midfield almost, we're almost guaranteed three points," Lodi senior Zach Steuck said.
Lodi's dream season is still very much alive, thanks to the right leg of Garret Wegner. Last Friday with Lodi down two, Wegner drilled the game-winning field goal as time expired in Lodi's 15-14 win over Columbus. That field goal capped off a record night (5 FGs is a state record), as Wegner accounted for all 15 of Lodi's points, knocking in five field goals.
"Not to say it like this or to mean it like this, but to single-handedly win a game like that with five field goals is unbelievable," Wegner said.
Lodi is one win from its first trip to the D4 state championship game. The Blue Devils face Omro on Friday night in West Bend.
