Madison musician to hold concert to honor late wife, raise money for cancer research

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- A local musician is honoring his late wife with a really cool concert, and he's working toward a cancer cure too.

Al Falaschi and his band, Phat Phunktion will play at the Majestic Theater Saturday, November 14 for "Funk Out Cancer." He organizes the event every other year to raise money for the Carbone Cancer Center. He and others have raised more than $100,000 so far since 2009.

Doors open at 7:00 p.m. with a silent auction. Music starts at 8:00 p.m. with Willy Porter. Phat Phunktion will play after.

Funk Out Cancer is in memory of Al's wife Kate, who died at the age of 32 of colon cancer. She was diagnosed at age 29. Al awarded money from one of his fundraisers to a doctor Kate met shortly after her diagnosis, Dr. Dusty Deming. A few months later, Dr. Deming himself was diagnosed with colon cancer. Despite that, he has been able to make great strides in research. Click on the video to learn more about that and see the interview Al did on Wake Up Wisconsin Thursday.
