Badgers earn 6 seed in NCAA Tournament

MADISON, Wis. – For the third straight season, the Wisconsin volleyball team will compete in the NCAA tournament. The Badgers (24-6, 16-4 Big Ten) were selected as the No. 6 overall seed when the 64-team bracket was announced on Sunday night. UW will host first and second-round matches on Thursday and Friday at the UW Field House.

Iowa State (18-10, 11-5 Big 12), coached by former UW assistant coach Christy Johnson Lynch, takes on Miami (Fla.) (21-9, 14-6 ACC) in the first match on Thursday at 5 p.m. Wisconsin faces Oregon (16-13, 10-10 Pac-12) in the second match on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. First-round winners will advance to the second round match on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Badgers are 37-18 (.673) in 18 NCAA tournament appearances. Wisconsin has hosted first and second-round matches 15 times, including in 2014 when it defeated Western Michigan in the first round and Illinois State in the second round. UW advanced to the NCAA Louisville Regional final last season, losing to eventual national champion Penn State, 3-1.  

A record nine Big Ten Conference teams made it into the NCAA tournament, including No. 2-seed Minnesota, No. 4-seed Nebraska, and No. 7-seed Penn State.v
