No. 6 Badgers avoid scare from Ducks, win 3-1 in NCAA opening round

MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 6 Wisconsin volleyball team knocked out Oregon 25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18 on Thursday evening in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the UW Field House.

Wisconsin (25-6) hit .282 (61 kills - 19 errors - 149 total attempts) and held Oregon to .205 (53-23-146).

Sophomore Lauryn Gillis led with a match-high 14 kills, followed by sophomore Kelli Bates with 13. Junior Haleigh Nelson and redshirt junior Romana Kriskova totaled 10 apiece.

Bates recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 18 digs while junior Lauren Carlini earned her 14th behind 50 assists and 11 digs.

UW outblocked Oregon 12-9 but both teams tallied 60 digs.

Freshman Tionna Williams and Carlini each recorded a career high with eight and seven blocks, respectively.

Bates led with 18 digs, followed by senior Taylor Morey with 17.

Freshman Amber MacDonald tallied a match-high two service aces.

Wisconsin will face Iowa State in the second round tomorrow at 8 p.m. in the UW Field House. The match will air live on the Big Ten Network.
