UW-Whitewater to Visit Mount Union for NCAA Semifinal

The No. 5 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team will travel to Alliance, Ohio, to take on top-ranked Mount Union in anNCAA Division III Playoffs semifinal contest this Saturday at 11 a.m. Central Time at Mount Union Stadium.

Tickets for Saturday’s matchup cost $8 and can be purchase online only. Phone orders will not be accepted.

The game will be broadcast live online on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app, and can be heard live on KOOL 106.5 FM WKCH in Whitewater and online at 940wfaw.com.

The Warhawks (12-1 overall) earned their spot in the national semifinals Saturday with a thrilling 31-29 victory over UW-Oshkosh. UW-Whitewater will make its 10th appearance in the tournament’s final four in the last 11 seasons.

The Purple Raiders (13-0), the nation’s consensus No. 1 ranked team, downed 11th-ranked Wesley (Del.) by a 56-35 margin in a quarterfinal on Saturday.

This Saturday’s affair is a rematch of last year’s Stagg Bowl national championship game. UW-Whitewater defeated Mount Union 43-34 for its sixth NCAA Division III title in the last eight years.

Saturday’s game will mark the 10th meeting between the two teams in the last 11 years, with all previous matchups coming in the national championship game. The Warhawks own a 6-3 advantage in postseason contest, claiming victories in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014.

UW-Whitewater owns a 6-5 advantage in the all-time series. The Purple Raiders won five of the first six matchups (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008).

The winner of Saturday’s game will advance to Stagg Bowl XLIII, the NCAA Division III national title game, to play the winner of No. 2 Linfield (Ore.) at No. 4 St. Thomas (Minn.), which will be played this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Central Time.

Kickoff of the Stagg Bowl is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Central Time on Friday, Dec. 18, in Salem, Va.
