MADISON (WKOW) -- The Harlem Globetrotters world tour comes to Madison December 28 and this year is a special one.
The Globetrotters are in their 90th year and they've started what's called "The Great Assist" initiative, a pledge to spread 100 million smiles around the world over the next 10 years. They'll do that with acts of kindness by talking to kids about bullying prevention, visiting children's hospitals, lending a hand after natural disasters, helping build homes for the needy and volunteering at soup kitchens.
El Gato Melendez, the first Puerto Rican-born Harlem Globetrotter, visited the WKOW studios Thursday to appear on Wake Up Wisconsin. He talked about the tour and The Great Assist program. He also tried to teach 27 News Anchor Dani Maxwell one of the signature Globetrotter moves. Click on the video to watch the interview.
