MADISON (WKOW) -- The Badger football team held its first practice in preparation for the Holiday Bowl on Friday afternoon. Wisconsin faces USC on Dec. 30 at 9:30 pm CT. The Badgers are still 19 days out from the game, but coach Paul Chryst appreciated the level of energy during the first day of bowl prep.

"You kind of expect it out of this group. There's really good leadership from the seniors and I know they're excited about playing in the Holiday Bowl and playing USC. It was great getting back with them. Does it alleviate that concern? That's our job to make sure we're ready. We've got one more opportunity with this team and it'll have to be our best game of the season," Chryst said.

Chryst did confirm that running back Corey Clement's playing status will be 100% determined by his health. Clement did not play in Wisconsin's Nov. 28th game at Minnesota after he was cited for two counts of disorderly conduct in Madison on Nov. 8.

Chryst also addressed the coaching rumors surrounding his defensive coordinator Dave Aranda. Aranda's name is a popular one in regards to coaching vacancies nationwide. Aranda's Badgers are the #1 ranked scoring defense in the country, allowing just 13 points per game. In his three seasons in Madison, Aranda's defenses have been ranked near the top statistically in the country, so it's hardly a surprise to Chryst that his defensive coordinator is garnering attention,

"[We] went through it last year with him and that's a good thing. I've been on that end of it. I don't worry about any in this group doing the job. They're all in. You deal with it as it comes. You're supportive of what's best for that person," Chryst said.
