Are the vets doing too much?

Posted: Updated:

MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) -- For the fist time in 24 seasons, the Wisconsin Badgers have dropped back-to-back nonconference losses. Both times, the Badgers had one final chance to either ties things up or win the game, with an upperclassman missing the shot.

Coming into the Battle for the State, the Badgers had win-streaks built up. But in the course of a few days, a young Wisconsin program saw the streaks be broken.

On Wednesday, they fell by one to UW-Milwaukee. Nigel Hayes put up a career-high 32 points, but still couldn't score enough to get the victory. In their 33 game history, this is only their second loss to the Panthers.

Then on Saturday, they lost by two to Marquette. Led by star forward Henry Hellenson and fellow forward Luke Fischer, the Golden Eagles out-scored the Badgers 36-16 in the paint, shooting over 43% from the floor.

Junior guard Bronson Koenig, who had 16 points against Milwaukee, missed the game winner.

Three nights later, Nigel Hayes, a junior forward, had 10 points against Marquette, but over-shot the three-ball for the win.

Which leaves the question: are the veteran players trying to do too much?
