Ohio State scores late, hold off Badgers to open 2016 season

MADISON, Wis. (Per UW Athletics)  Wisconsin (4-8-5, 1-3-0-0 Big Ten) created chances, especially in the second period, but failed to score, while Ohio State (6-11-0, 1-2-0-0 Big Ten) connected twice in the third to gain a 2-0 victory on Friday at the Kohl Center.

UW outshot OSU, 26-19.

Freshman goaltender Matt Jurusik made 19 saves in the loss.

Freshman Will Johnson’s shot in the second period hit off OSU goaltender Christian Frey and bounced over, but was cleared at the goal line on its way into the net by OSU defenseman Drew Brevig, for UW’s closest scoring attempt.

The Badgers will wrap up the series with OSU Saturday at 7 p.m.
